Glasses-Free Vision
Ortho-k contact lenses have been compared to orthodontics for your eyes. They work by gently reshaping the curve of your cornea while you sleep and are removed in the morning so you have clear vision without lenses during the day.
For children, ortho-k lenses have been shown to reduce myopia progression by around half compared to traditional vision correction (glasses or contact lenses). These contact lenses are worn overnight, which means you can supervise your child during the treatment, and they don’t need to worry about glasses or contact lenses at school or during after-school activities.
We’re here to help you and your child find the right myopia management method that matches their needs, preferences, and abilities, as well as your own. We’re happy to discuss any questions you have during your child’s appointment.

What Are the Benefits of Ortho-K?
Ortho-k contact lenses have a number of benefits compared to other myopia control methods. Because they’re worn overnight, your child is home during the treatment.
For younger children, this makes it easy to assist them with inserting or removing their lenses, and you’ll be available if they have any issues while wearing the lenses, such as rubbing their eye and moving the lens. Our team will help you and your child learn to insert and remove their lenses confidently and provide all the materials needed to care for them, such as the case and solution.
Additionally, children who participate in sports or swim regularly won’t need to worry about wearing glasses during their activities. Older children and teens, who may be more self-conscious about their looks, can manage their myopia at home without wearing glasses to school.
How Do We Choose Myopia Treatments?
The myopia management method we use will be determined after your child has a thorough eye exam and we complete a consultation. During this appointment, we’ll discuss the myopia control options available for your child based on their prescription, age, and eye health.
We’ll include both you and your child in this conversation, so you can understand the available options and make a decision that suits your child’s needs and preferences. Their treatment plan may include more than one treatment, such as ortho-k lenses and low-dose atropine eye drops.
Choosing a treatment doesn’t mean our work is done. Once we’ve started a plan to manage their myopia, we’ll book regular follow-up appointments to monitor their eye growth and the progression of their myopia. This helps us check that the chosen treatment is working as expected, and can guide us to adjust or change the treatment if necessary.
Ortho-K Lenses for Adults
Ortho-k contact lenses are not only for myopia control. They can also correct vision in adults with mild to moderate levels of myopia (nearsightedness) and astigmatism.
Similar to ortho-k in children, adults can wear ortho-k lenses overnight to correct their vision. As you sleep, the ortho-k lens gently reshapes your cornea. This helps light to focus directly on your retina for clear, lens-free vision throughout the day. The only difference is that for adults, ortho-k lenses don’t have the added benefit of slowing myopia progression, as myopia typically stabilizes in adulthood.
To determine if ortho-k lenses will work for you, we’ll start with an in-depth evaluation of your eyes. This will include some tests using our eye care technology, such as corneal topography. Once we have determined that you’re a good candidate for ortho-k, we’ll measure your eyes for their custom-fit lenses.
